noun, plural - man·kys.
- a map that loves the great outdoors.
On a daily basis we receive positive comments about our Redwoods & Whakarewarewa Forest Manky maps like, "what a great idea", "this is the best map ever", " a great tool to navigate around the forest tracks" or simply..."these are cool."
In the past we produced a coated paper map that was pretty resilient and water proof. The change has taken the odd few people some getting used to but we have found the Manky to be superior to the old map version for various reasons. It is even more resilient, no need to worry about the rain, dirt or it getting coated in gunk at the bottom of a bag...just wash it. It is so transportable as it can be stuffed in a pocket or tied on bike handles or put under a helmet. Best of all, I think, is it is totally re-usable.
We've had such great feedback that the idea has been taken back to Councils in other areas of New Zealand and even to Australia. Thanks to Bill for popping in with his idea one day after a ride. Ever since he and his team have been really helpful in all aspects of this very new venture for us. I'm glad we took the plunge to move away from the traditional maps and move forward with the Manky. It is so successful we almost can't keep up!

The Manky Maps Gordonstoun had produced have proved to be a fantastic resource for the School. They have been a great success with students and staff alike. They provide the Outdoor Education and Learning Department with a robust and reusable orienteering map that can be used time and time again. Amongst many other things they are used by our mountain bikers to clear dirt and mud from their protective eyewear, our paddlers to wipe water from their kayak seats, our sailors to polish the salt off their sunglasses and our IT guys to clean their iPad screens!
The maps have also offered a unique and excellent way for Gordonstoun to provide visitors with a way of navigating around our school grounds and also as a lasting and useful momento.
Many thanks Manky Maps

Our Wellington City Walking Manky has been a great success. We used our manky as a give away to the public during a walk to work campaign. We had 342 people request them, and had some good comments such as “Really like the map on hanky, that was such a good idea”
Overall, we were really pleased with them. There are lots of obvious things we can give cyclists but not as many for pedestrians and this type of thing is a useful, fun gift that we can get our messages and links out on. We’ll definitely consider using them again for future promotions.

The Manky Maps that we had produced for the Sailors’ Society Asian Challenge 2013 were a huge success with all participants. They were the perfect map for those climbing Mount Kinabalu and a useful memento of their achievement. They were also the ideal material for cleaning sunglasses on the way up!
The design process was easy and accommodating. We were really delighted with the end product! Using our sponsors' logos was also great branding for them.
Thank you Manky Maps… look forward to working with you again on our next Challenge!
